Leadership
Service is an inherent part of Girl Scouting. No matter her age, background or abilities, every girl can share in meaningful projects that promote civic responsibility, address challenges in her world, be a problem-solver, and educate or inspire others into action.
Giving girls the opportunity to see first-hand how their involvement has the power to change the future and arming them with a “can-do” spirit carries seamlessly into many other aspects of their lives.
Our Educational Initiative programs include:
- LIFT (Leaders In-training For Tomorrow) is a unique in-school program of Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania (GSWPA), specifically designed to serve “at-risk” girls in grades six thru twelve. From a social standpoint, an “at risk” population extends to girls who have experienced minimal family stability and support; have poor self-images, values and attitude; function poorly in the community; and engage in destructive behavior that may hinder their chances for becoming positive and fulfilled adults. LIFT has operated since 1990 in collaboration with school districts and is formulated to encourage girls to develop self potential and values, relate to others, and contribute to society.
Leadership comes naturally in Girl Scouting. Perhaps it has something to do with the freedom and encouragement to explore their imaginations and devise their own solutions to issues that are meaningful to them. Today’s dynamic Girl Scouts will someday head businesses, civic groups and families—and they begin their leadership journey in their schools and communities.
