Alumnae Happenings

Special Events

Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania presents a wide range of special events each year, including Alumnae Association happy hours, casual fundraising events, a summertime golf tournament and our signature Award of Distinction programs. Alumnae, and friends, are welcome to join us at any of these events – take a look at our calendar to see what is coming up in your area!

100th Anniversary Volunteer Opportunities

Girl Scouting will celebrate our 100th anniversary in 2012 – and you’re invited to help GSWPA plan and prepare for this incredible milestone! Joining a 100th Anniversary committee is a great way for Alumna to reconnect with Girl Scouting in a flexible and accommodating volunteer position that fits your interests.

Some of the unique 100th Anniversary Volunteer opportunities available include:

  • History & Archive Committee: help preserve and display historic Girl Scout materials.
  • Speaker’s Bureau: Share your Girl Scout Story, and connect with other Girl Scout Alumnae, through presentations in your community.
  • Special Event Committees: Help make GSWPA’s alumnae and fundraising events a success.
  • 100th Anniversary Program Committees: Help with the planning and development of special programs to celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouting

When you join GSWPA’s Alumnae Association you have the opportunity to ask to learn more about these volunteer opportunities. Or, if you are already part of the Alumnae Association, please email alumnae@gswpa.org to learn more about the 100th Anniversary Volunteer Opportunity that interests you!

Global Leadership Opportunities

GSUSA is seeking applications from young women to join a pool of volunteers interested in global leadership opportunities (travel stipends may be available). Members of this pool may be asked to represent GSUSA at the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) leadership events and trainings, and will serve for a triennium (2009-2011). Typically, there are three to four Global Leadership Opportunities (GLO) each year. When Global Leaderships Opportunities become available, a notice will be sent to members inviting them to complete a second application which will include questions specific to the event. Applicants must be 18 years old to apply and cannot turn 35 until after the end of the triennium. There is no deadline for submitting applications. Selected volunteers will be notified by email.

To be considered, applicants must be:

  • members of Girl Scouts of the USA;
  • available to travel internationally on short notice;
  • actively volunteering at their local Girl Scout council and endorsed by the council;
  • committed to bringing back, sharing and integrating their new knowledge and skills at the local Girl Scout council and/or nationally.

Download the application and submit it to globalgirlscouting@girlscouts.org. Due to the limited number of WAGGGS Global Leadership Opportunities, membership in the pool does not guarantee attendance/participation at an international event.

Join Girl Scouting Global Leadership Opportunities on Facebook to learn more about Global Girl Scouting initiatives, and receive regular updates and WAGGGS information.
