Get Outdoors Challenge


The first-ever GSWPA Get Outdoors Challenge this summer was a big hit, with more than 1,200 girls earning the girl-designed patch.

Now, there’s a winter edition of this challenge to inspire you to get outdoors all season long!


From November 1 – March 31, complete as many activities as possible from the checklist, then complete the Patch Request Form by April 15. There are 67 activities to choose from, including ice skating, sledding, feeding birds, and, of course, making snow angels!

Complete the required amount of activities for your grade level to earn your Get Outdoors Challenge patch or your winter leaf if you have already earned the main patch through the summer challenge.

Challenge Rules and Guidelines
  1. The challenge is open to current girl and adult members of GSWPA and other Girl Scout councils. Family members may participate in activities, but are not eligible for patches.
  2. Activities required per grade level include:
    • Daisy - 20
    • Brownie - 25
    • Junior - 30
    • Cadette - 35
    • Senior - 40
    • Ambassador - 45
    • Adult - 45 
  3. Girls and adults may only submit one patch request. All entries must be submitted by April 15, 2018 for activities completed between November 1, 2017 and March 31, 2018.

  4. Girls and adults must complete the required number of activities for their grade level and submit their patch request form by April 15, 2018 to earn the patch.
  5. Girls and adults are only eligible to earn one patch per challenge. Girls can earn a winter leaf if they have already earned the main patch through the summer challenge.

  6. Girls and adults may complete activities individually or as a troop/group, but each girl and adult should only count activities that they participated in.

  7. Girls and adults must follow Safety Activity Checkpoints for all activities.

  8. Girl Scouts from outside of GSWPA are welcome to complete the Get Outdoors Challenge, but will need to pay for their patch and the shipping costs. The cost of the patch is $0.76 and the cost of the shipping is typically $1.25 (may vary depending on the number of patches requested). Out-of-council participants should submit the online form as normal, and then call Customer Care at 800-248-3355 to inquire about the total amount due for the patches.
