Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania (GSWPA) will honor outstanding service and leadership to the Erie community at the annual Awards of Distinction luncheon on Wednesday, September 23 at the Ambassador Banquet & Conference Center, 7794 Peach St, Erie, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
GSWPA’s Awards of Distinction recognize a local female leader, impressive Girl Scout troop and a community-champion organization. Proceeds of this event support Girl Scouts’ mission to develop courage, confidence and character in girls and to inspire the next generation of young women to become the leaders of tomorrow.
Karen S. Seggi is the winner of the 2015 Woman of Distinction award. She is the executive director of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania, the largest nonprofit food distribution organization in the region. The agency serves 442 partner organizations in 11 counties.
Seggi is a board member of Feeding Pennsylvania and serves as President of Hunger Free Pennsylvania, two statewide anti-hunger organizations. She is also a member of the Emergency Food and Shelter Board in Erie and Clarion Counties.
A former Girl Scout Troop Leader, Seggi led her daughter’s troop at Robison Elementary for three years.
