Important Retail Shop Announcement

July 14, 2016 -- Through our ongoing work with our Customer Engagement Initiative, we hope our members have noticed a streamlined approach to our customer service. As a council, we're always looking at ways to support the mission so more girls can experience the benefits of Girl Scouting.
Most recently, we've taken a close look at our retail shops. National retail trends clearly show that more and more shoppers are going online. Along with that, we're seeing more and more volunteers and parents shopping online instead of in our traditional shops.
Reviewing how and where our members shop has prompted some changes to the operation of our council shops. At the same time, it's opened up a new and exciting opportunity for our girls and volunteers.
All Girl Scout shops are closed in July for inventory. All shops will reopen in August with new hours: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays; closed on Fridays; and 9-noon on one Saturday each month, September through May.
On Oct. 27, we will permanently close our Girl Scout shops in Beaver, Johnstown and Kittanning.
As we move forward, we know that science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills are critical building blocks for our girls. The current shop space in Beaver will be transformed into a troop meeting space and volunteer resource center with STEM-focused options this fall. Girls will be able to use the center as a space to fulfill badge requirements or to dig deeper into how STEM is a part of our daily lives. We'll provide more information on this center as it takes shape.
Formal plans have not been made for the Johnstown and Kittanning retail spaces at this time. We'll keep our members updated as plans evolve based on girl and volunteer feedback.
We'll be working closely with volunteers to find those perfect opportunities for shopping so you can get what you need when you need it. We've seen positive reaction to retail options in the field-like Trading Posts at camp and pop-up shops at Girl Scout events. In the meantime, our online shop is available 24/7 at You can also visit our retail shops in Edinboro, Greensburg and Pittsburgh, or call us at 800-248-3355 to place an order and have it shipped. Volunteers can also schedule consignment shops, which are a great way to earn money for your service unit. You'll also see us at larger GSWPA programs and events, and of course at camp. Look for more information on pop-up shops in the coming months.
