Pittsburgh (April 23, 2018)—Girls who are entering kindergarten in fall 2018 are invited to join Girl Scouts by participating in an early-registration program with Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania (GSWPA). By becoming an early member of the council, these girls will be a part of the Sprouts Program though the summer until they begin kindergarten and officially become a Daisy Girl Scout.
Girls who register now will be able to take advantage of upcoming special Sprout Program activities, which serve as an irreplaceable introduction into Girl Scouts. These events are being organized and held in areas throughout the council. While earning their first patch, girls will partake in age-appropriate, engaging activities that focus on helping these young members understand the mission of Girl Scouts—building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place—by encouraging helpfulness, honesty, sharing, and kindness.
As official members of Girl Scouts, those who join the Sprouts Program will also be able to make the most of special discount rates for GSWPA events throughout the summer including Girl Scout Day with the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park and a day at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium. Other opportunities include participating in the GSWPA Get Outdoors Challenge and National S’mores Day celebrations.
With the support and dedication of more than 11,000 adult members, GSWPA provides nearly 21,000 girls from 27 counties and many different backgrounds and beliefs with the resources to become tomorrow’s leaders. Based on time-tested methods and research-backed programming that help girls take the lead—in their own lives and in the world, Girl Scouts is the preeminent leadership development organization for girls.
As an all-girl, girl-led, and girl-friendly environment, Girl Scouts is a place where girls practice different skills, explore potential, take on leadership positions—and even feel allowed to fail and the confidence to try again.
