It’s Girl Scout Cookie Time!

If, like most customers, you’ve been looking forward to your Thin Mints, Tagalongs, Samoas, Do-Si-Dos, Lemon Chalet Cremes, Trefoils, Dulce de Leches, and this year’s new cookie – Thank U Berry Munch, then the wait is almost over! Girls will begin taking orders on January 8, 2010. All eight varieties of Girl Scout cookies are $3.50 a box.

Delivery is planned for February 20 to 25.

If you miss a Girl Scout coming to your door, you can check back here in February and click on the Cookie Locator (above) that will be activated. This will help you find a cookie booth at a shopping mall, community center or grocery store in your community.

Girl Scout cookies can help buy supplies for Girl Scout troops or allow them to buy supplies for a local women’s shelter. Thin Mints and Trefoils can be sent sent overseas to our Troops in Iraq, or even donated to a local food pantry. All of the revenue—every penny after paying the bakery—from all cookie sale activities supports Girl Scout program at our local Girl Scout council, including a portion that goes directly to the group selling cookies. Last year, the troop portion received by girls in western Pennsylvania was $1,885,292, and girls decide where the money goes. In fact, the Girl Scout cookie program is one of the few programs in the country to let youth decide how to direct proceeds from their business activity. Giving girls decision-making over financial goal setting, budgeting and spending is an invaluable and empowering experience.
