This fall, Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania (GSWPA) begins its new membership year by encouraging girls to be at the forefront of ecological stewardship. Inspired by girls who indicated that protecting the environment is a top priority for young people, Girl Scouts is introducing a new set of environmentally-themed leadership development books entitled, It’s Your Planet—Love It. This program resource, used by troops and at council events, provides girls with leadership development opportunities as they complete activities and exercises that focus on
conservation, reducing pollution and renewable and reusable resources.
With the City of Pittsburgh hosting the G-20 Summit on September 24-25, 2009, and with most of the meetings and social events taking place in the Downtown business district, Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania and other businesses are making alternative plans to help address the needs of customers during this time.

Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania (GSWPA) was notified on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 that an 18 year old unit counselor at Camp Redwing (Renfrew, PA) who was sent home sick on Friday, July 24 was diagnosed with a confirmed case of H1N1 flu.
