Tour de Tamarack

The 15th Annual Tour de Tamarack is scheduled for Sunday, August 31, at Oakgrove Park in Meadville. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. The first race starts at 9 a.m. cost is $25. Proceeds benefit Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania.

“We’re thrilled to share our enthusiasm over cycling with young women in our community for the third year in a row,” commented Nina Bell, Tour de Tamarack coordinator. “The tour ties in beautifully with the Girl Scouts’ endeavors to build healthy young women.”

Registrations are now being taken online at Registration forms are available at local bicycle shops in Erie and Crawford counties, or at the Girl Scout Program & Leadership Center in Edinboro. For more details, call race coordinator Bell at (814) 337-3070.

Race Details
The Tour de Tamarack is divided into four target segments: 1) an elite bicycle race for the diehard cyclist; 2) a citizen bicycle race for avid cyclists as well as novice and beginners entering the world of racing; 3) a 10-mile challenge for newcomers to the sport of cycling; and 3) a children’s bike race where each child receives a prize. Every child must wear a helmet but can ride anything from a Big Wheel to a full-sized bicycle.

From Wheels To Wellness
In conjunction with the event, Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania hosts a program called From Wheels To Wellness, that encourages girls in Crawford County to learn about cycling, participate in cycling events through the summer and to incorporate the sport into their healthy lifestyle.
