Girl Scout Summer Camp Season Begins in June

May 11, 2009 Posted in Newsroom, Press Releases

Girls in grades K-12 are invited to experience day and resident camp this summer with Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania (GSWPA).

Six overnight-resident camps near Ebensburg, Volant, Fairview, Oil City, Avonmore and Butler offer a wide variety of dates, prices and themes such as: Adventures and Challenges, The Arts, Camp Samplers, Classics & Cultures, Environment & Nature, Horse Lover, Special Interest and Swimming & Water Sports. Family programs are also available. Each camp has unique amenities that include platform tents, yurts or cabins; and all are staffed with activity specialists, a cook, a health supervisor and specialty staff selected for their leadership skills and experience in working with children.

Day Camp programs are offered in Beaver, Blair, Cambria, Erie, Indiana, Lawrence, Mercer and Warren Counties. Most day camps run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for three to five days; and while planned in specific areas, welcome girls from neighboring areas.

Although you don’t have to be a current Girl Scout to attend camp, a $10 membership registration fee will be added to the cost of camp for all nonmembers. Girls can bring a friend, and if requested – be placed in the same unit as “bunk buddies”.

Through funding support and cookie sale proceeds, GSWPA subsidizes the cost of all camp sessions; and prices vary from $50 for day camps to $650 for a 12-night session.

To learn more, visit www.gswpa.org and click on the “Camp Like a Girl” icon. All camp listings are in the online version of S’MORE Magazine, and posted in the Calendar / Events page that allows you to sort resident camp or day camp in the category section; and also define your search by dates, age level of girls, and distances.
