Girl Scout Gold Award Ceremonies

Apr 26, 2010 Posted in Newsroom, Press Releases

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award that a Girl Scout Senior or Ambassador in grades 9-12 may earn. Someone once described the Girl Scout Gold Award as being “what you really want to be remembered for” in Girl Scouting. For many, the leadership skills, organizational skills, and sense of community and commitment that come from “going for the Gold” set the foundation for a lifetime of active citizenship.

Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania (GSWPA) will be honoring 149 awardees at three Girl Scout Gold Award ceremonies this spring:

  • May 16 at Pittsburgh Airport Marriott in Coraopolis
  • May 19 at University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in Johnstown
  • May 23 at Clarion Holiday Inn in Clarion

“Each girl has made a significant contribution to their community”, stated CEO, Patricia A. Burkart. “The Girl Scout Gold Award project is more than a good service project — it encompasses organizational, leadership and networking skills; and requires 65 hours of service, plus planning and requisite completion time.” Only five percent of all Girl Scouts achieve this honor.
