Greensburg, PA - The Westmoreland County Community Foundation (WCCF) has selected Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania (GSWPA) to receive a $1,000 grant through their Youth Advisory Committee grant-making program.

In the fall of 2010, GSWPA will be partnering with the Jeanette Jays to offer a Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (S.T.E.M.) Sampler program to middle-school girls who take part in the Jeanette Jays afterschool program. With hand-on activities, and lots of room for exploration, the S.T.E.M. Sampler program makes learning an interactive and fun experience. Girls have the opportunity to explore different areas of science, technology, engineering and math, and will discover how these fields can actually have an impact on their lives.

Led by a trained facilitator, the Sampler program consists of eight hands-on sessions, each approximately 60 minutes in length; two sessions each in science, technology, engineering and math. These experiences will give girls confidence in their abilities and will open doors of opportunities, so that these young women can become the leaders of tomorrow.
