Working with Horses at Camp Redwing

The horse program at Camp Redwing is a big part of my life. All winter/fall/spring long, all i can think is, "There's only this many days til I'm back at camp, with all the pretty ponies!"

A Love for the Horses at Camp Redwing

I started going to Camp Redwing with my friends when I was about 9. Then, one summer when I was 11 my friend decided that she wanted to go to horse camp. I myself was very, very afraid of horses and pretty much any animal bigger than a golden retriever. I still to this day can't figure out what made me agree to go, but I went anyway.

Cadette Girl Scout Troop 40937 Begins Work on 'The Water Drop Patch'

Our Girl Scout Cadette Troop 40937 from Mundy's Corner went on a field trip to UPJ (University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown) on March 9, 2010 to start work on "The Water Drop Patch". We met with Carrie Davis Todd, PHD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Geology and Planetary Science to gain some basic knowledge before heading out into the creeks and streams come spring. She showed the ladies that a woman can work in a geology field. She and one of her students worked with our troop to understand the Water Cycle and to learn about Ground Water.

They stretched standing and on the floor, in different directions and different styles. Pitt’s colors are blue, white and gold. UCONN’s colors were red, white and blue. I am a Pitt fan.

On April 28, 2009 I learned Latin. Yes, Latin. It was a beginner’s lesson, well, actually, just a sentence, but I will repeat these words every day of my life; Quo Desidero Obtineo. Translated it means, "I get what I want" or literally, "desire obtained." This is one of the quotes Marylynn Uricchio, Seen editor for the Post-Gazette, lives by and I sat, stunned, as she told me. I was amazed that such a wonderful and successful woman lived by such a commanding phrase. But after the initial shock, it made perfect sense. Quo Desidero Obtineo—so motivational, so powerful, so driven, so memorable…so Marylynn.
