Countdown to Girl Scout’s 100th Anniversary
In 2012, Girl Scouts will commemorate 100 years of building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania (GSWPA) has begun planning these initiatives and seeks feedback from both girl and adult members and our neighbors in the 27-counties of Western Pennsylvania which GSWPA serves.
GSWPA Announces Fayette County Girl Scout Day Camp
The fourth annual Fayette County Girl Scout Day Camp will be held Tuesday, June 22 – Thursday, June 24 at Shady Grove Campground in Uniontown, PA. The day camp is open to all girls entering grades 1-5 in the fall of 2010. Girls, who are not currently Girl Scouts, are welcome to attend. Activities take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day and bus transportation is provided from locations throughout Fayette County.

Girl Scouts to Invest in Girl Members and Programming Through Sale of Camps
(Pittsburgh, PA) On March 20, 2010, the Board of Directors for Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania accepted a recommendation of a program and property task group to divest of six camp properties. The council began a long-range plan and study in 2009 to review the usage and program potential of its 15 council-owned camp properties.
Girl Scout Gold Award Ceremonies
The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award that a Girl Scout Senior or Ambassador in grades 9-12 may earn. Someone once described the Girl Scout Gold Award as being “what you really want to be remembered for” in Girl Scouting. For many, the leadership skills, organizational skills, and sense of community and commitment that come from “going for the Gold” set the foundation for a lifetime of active citizenship.

Troops 44003 from Mans Choice, 40078 from Johnstown, 30715 from Tionesta, 10301 from New Castle, 53548 from Washington, 50999 from Cheswick and 30200 and 30353, both from Erie, were identified by Secret Shoppers for holding a successful booth sales during the 2010 Girl Scout Cookie Sale program.
