Girl Scout Cookies - Best Bytes

Feb 19, 2010 Posted in Newsroom, Press Releases

What goes better than Girl Scout cookies and milk? Girl Scouts and computers.

For that reason, Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania is providing new online marketing tools to help girls add an even greater competitive edge to their sales techniques.

The 411 of Online Marketing publication, online order tracking and eCards to notify online friends and family that it's cookie season, are just a few methods used by Girl Scouts today to sell those delicious Thin Mints, Tagalongs, Samoas, Do-Si-Dos, Lemon Chalet Cremes, Trefoils, Dulce de Leches and this year’s new cookie – Thank U Berry Munch, a combination of cranberries and white fudge chips. The viral message has even made it to YouTube, search What Can a Cookie Do?, to learn more about the value of the Girl Scout Cookie Sale.

With busy girls and even busier customers, February and March booth sales at local shopping malls, community centers and grocery stores are increasing in popularity to the traditional door-to-door sales in January. An online Cookie Locator is posted at so that customers can pinpoint locations in their neighborhood where their favorite cookies can be purchased.

Like many other ethical business leaders in western Pennsylvania, the local community benefits directly as well, since most Girl Scouts use a portion of their cookie proceeds to pay for service projects that meet specific community needs. To see how our local and global communities benefit from the sale, check out the Girls Who Do Great Things. In addition to sending cookies to our military personnel overseas, many Girl Scouts are designating a portion of their sales proceeds to help with the Haiti relief efforts.
