Where Cookie Money Goes
When you buy a box of Girl Scout Cookies, most of the money stays with the Girl Scout you purchased cookies from, her troop, and right here in our local community. Proceeds from the Girl Scout Cookie Program fund new adventures and the life-changing opportunities girls get at Girl Scouts—from trips to our nation's capital to community projects to spending the summer at camp.
Funds raised through the Cookie Program help pay for many aspects of Girl Scouting:
- keeps camp affordable by subsidizing the registration cost;
- supports the Girl Scout Leadership Experience which includes Girl Programming, curriculum and events; and
- provides grants to girls and troops with financial barriers, so that Girl Scouting is available to all girls.
- Girls also earn proceeds for their individual troop, which are used for troop activities and service projects within their communities.
Here’s how the cookie crumbles:
50% goes to council-sponsored programs, events, properties
24% goes to the cost of the cookies and distribution
22% goes to troop proceeds, bonuses and girl recognitions
4% goes to administrative expenses
