Troop Camp toggle arrow

If your troop is new to camping or you just want to kick back, have fun, and let us take care of the details, council-sponsored troop camping is for you! Here’s how it works: troop leaders and troop committee volunteers sign up to attend a troop camp session with girls from their troop, and provide enough council-approved volunteers for supervision of the troop throughout the day and night and to meet our volunteer-to-girl ratio requirements. Our camp staff will provide meals and coordinate all of the activities throughout the day and evening.

Choosing the Right Grade Level for Your Girl toggle arrow

When selecting a summer camp session for your Girl Scout, please use the grade level that she will be entering next fall. For example, if she is in second grade now, you can register her for camp sessions that include third graders. Special circumstances are considered on a case-by-case basis for girls to move up or down one grade level. Most often, this is due to special needs or siblings attending a session together.

Grade Levels & Registration Clarification
If a camp session is for Girl Scout Cadettes – Ambassadors, you’ll notice in the event details under “level” it reads Cadettes, Seniors, Ambassadors, AND Juniors. The reason registration for that session is also open to Juniors is because girls who will be Cadettes at the time they attend camp are currently Juniors.

Example: If Carly is in fifth grade now, she is a Girl Scout Junior, and will be moving or “bridging” to the next level, a Girl Scout Cadette, at the end of the school year. This means that Carly’s caregiver should search for camp sessions that are open to Girl Scout Juniors.

Financial Assistance for Camp toggle arrow

Financial assistance is available for girls who qualify to help cover one council-sponsored camp per membership year. If you'd like to request financial assistance for camp, first save your girl's spot at camp by registering for the session she'd like to attend, then complete the Financial Assistance Application.

If you have not completed your girl membership registration for this membership year, you must do so first by completing the Girl Membership Registration.

Using Girl Scout Bucks for Camp toggle arrow

Double your Girl Scout Bucks for camp! Girls receive double the value of Girl Scout Bucks toward summer camps found in Camp S'more magazine! To register and pay for all or part of camp using Girl Scout Bucks or Indie Girl Scout Program Rewards*, please complete our redemption form.

*Indie Girl Scout Program Rewards are not doubled.

Do I Have to be a Girl Scout to go to Camp? toggle arrow

Not a Girl Scout? No problem! Girl Scouts is for every girl—and you don’t need to join a troop. Simply become an Individually Registered Girl Scout, and you can enjoy summer camp and all of the other activities and programs that make Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania so much fun!

Preparing for Summer Camp

Meet our Camp Staff toggle arrow

Our camp staff is always hard at work creating a summer full of adventure and memories! Meet our camp directors, discover their favorite place at camp, and learn about the friendly seasonal staff who make it all happen:

  • Alicia "Gilly" Reedy - Camp Conshatawba: Gilly worked at Camp Conshatawba for two summers before becoming the camp director. She loves her marshmallows slightly golden and gooey. She loves singing "The Turkey Song," and you can find her at the pool swimming! Learn more about Camp Conshatawba.

  • Mikayla "Daisy" Kirschner - Camp Hawthorne Ridge: Daisy has worked in various positions at Camp Hawthorne Ridge over the last few years and is now the camp director! She likes her marshmallows crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. You can find Daisy hiking the trails and enjoying all things outdoors! Learn more about Camp Hawthorne Ridge.

  • Rowan "Bug" Curry - Camp Skymeadow: Bug is the seasonal director at Camp Skymeadow! This is her fourth summer working at camp, and her third at Camp Skymeadow. Her favorite camp activities are making bracelets, taking pictures of bugs and plants, and singing songs around the campfire. She likes her marshmallow golden brown. Outside of camp, you can find her practicing her Italian, hiking with her mom and dog, and laughing with friends. Camp is her home, and she hopes you love it just as much as she does. Learn more about Camp Skymeadow.
  • Summer camp seasonal staff are enthusiastic, talented, and caring individuals who have been carefully selected based on their maturity, program skills, experience, and ability to serve as role models. They receive intensive pre-camp training each year to ensure a top-notch camp experience for all Girl Scouts. Learn more about our camp staff on our Parent Central/FAQs page.

A Day at Girl Scout Camp toggle arrow

Our camp sessions are overflowing with ways to make friends and memories and every day is full of fun and adventure! Here's a peek at what a typical day at overnight camp looks like:

  • Girl Scouts will participate in four programs per day (dependent on weather and/or health and safety precautions) ranging from swimming to hiking to taking on the challenge course to horseback riding. In between all of the fun, camp traditions like campfires, evening activities, cookouts, and s’more-making take place.

  • Three well-balanced meals and one afternoon snack are served daily at overnight camp (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options are available).

  • Campers participate in kapers (camp chores) like setting up for meals, leading songs after meals, cleaning up their cabin, and other daily tasks together as a unit to enhance the camp community.

  • At camp, we believe that girl-led programs are vital to the Girl Scout movement. Campers will have the opportunity to make important decisions in their units like their cookout meal, choice activities, and campfire songs, and lead their very own Girl Scout’s Own ceremony on Friday!

Required Forms and Paperwork

Medication toggle arrow

Healthcare at Camp
All camp participants are required to complete their health history and medication information in CampDoc prior to coming to camp. CampDoc is the electronic health record system that Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania (GSWPA) uses to track camper health information. Below is additional information related to healthcare at GSWPA camps:

  • What is considered a medication?
    • GSWPA’s definition of medication is any drug deemed safe and effective for its intended use by the FDA, in addition to select dietary supplements, including multivitamins and melatonin. GSWPA will not administer any substance that contains Cannabidiol (CBD) or Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). GSWPA reserves the right to assess each camper’s medication regimen and the camp’s ability to safely provide medication administration for each camper.
  • Does my camper need a prescription?
    • All medications, including over-the-counter medications (per GSWPA's definition), are required to have a physician order (prescription) for them to be given at camp. This policy aligns with Pennsylvania State Law and the Pennsylvania Nurse Practice Act.
  • Prescription Medications
    • GSWPA recommends that camp families send medications in pharmacist-sorted medication packs (med packs). This can be done by requesting med-packing through your regular pharmacy. Most of the major pharmacies in the region offer med-packing services at no additional cost to the customer. Med-packing is covered by most insurance plans. An additional resource for med-packing is Amazon Pharmacy.
    • If you are unable to access med-packing, the other option is for prescription medications to be brought to camp in their original pharmacy containers.
  • Over-the-Counter Medications
    • Over-the-counter (OTC) medications will be accepted in their original containers as long as a physician order is present with the medication. Orders for OTC medications must include the medication, vitamin, or supplement name, the dose prescribed by the physician, time of administration, why the medication is prescribed, and have the physician's signature and date on the order.
  • Rescue Medications
    • Rescue medications include (but are not limited to) medications such as inhalers, EPIPens, diabetes medications, and seizure medications. These medications will be in the possession of the camper’s counselor and with the camper at all times. GSWPA’s procedure for rescue medications instructs the camp nurse to collect all rescue medications and ensure the camp counselors understand when and how to use them.

As a reminder, the camp nurse will be on-site daily for overnight camps but not 24/7. Medications will be administered by the camp nurse or self-administered by campers under the supervision of camp staff. A nurse is not present on-site for day camp. Campers are encouraged to take their medications during non-camp times. Otherwise, medications will be self-administered by campers under the supervision of the camp staff.

If your camper has additional healthcare needs, please reach out to council prior to their camp session to ensure we are prepared to meet your camper’s needs.
