Whos ready to get cold-blooded? Join a naturalist from North Parks
Latodami Nature Center for a two-hour, late-afternoon kayaking tour
and learn all about the scaly, slimy world of herpetology!
Following a short kayaking demonstration, a local expert will
guide participants on an interpretive kayak tour where they will learn
about the differences between reptiles and amphibians, and their
importance to our ecosystem.
What makes a reptile a
reptile? How are amphibians different? Which reptiles and amphibians
can you find around here? And why are these slimy, creepy, crawly
critters so important to our ecosystem? Snakes, turtles, salamanders,
frogs and more - let's paddle around North Park Lake and discuss! This
tour will include a section on endangered and threatened animals, like
Hellbenders (amphibians) and Box Turtles (reptiles).
Please come prepared with weather- and activity-appropriate clothing
(preferably synthetic). Make sure to wear activity-appropriate shoes
and possible bring an extra pair in case your shoes get wet. Bring a
day pack and at least one quart of water (no glass bottles, please).
Also make sure to bring any personal prescriptions, such as EpiPen or
inhaler. And, of course, dont forget insect repellent.
***Adult supervision for the duration of the event is required. Girls
must attend with a parent/guardian or troop leaders (following ratio).
