Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania is thrilled to celebrate the grand opening of the STEM Lab on Saturday, October 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Located in the Edinboro Activity Center at the Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania Edinboro office, the new STEM Lab will feature exciting, hands-on programming, including:
Space Science Exploration: Girl Scouts will explore the wonders of the universe through engaging experiments and creative challenges – such as modeling moon phases, constructing solar systems, discovering constellations, and investigating light with diffraction spectrometers.
Robotics: Whether Girl Scouts are guiding Spheros Indi through colorful mazes, lighting up the track with BOLT, snapping together magnetic Cubelets, or programming Edison to dance, robotics programming will blend tech and creativity.
3D Printing Pens: In this hands-on design program, Girl Scouts will explore 3D printing by drawing in the air and building their own creations layer by layer.
MakerSpace: Through fun, hands-on engineering challenges, Girl Scouts will explore how to solve problems creatively using a mix of craft supplies and everyday materials.
Program Kits: The STEM Lab will offer a variety of program kits, including the Pollinators Citizen Science Kit and Exploring Biodiversity Citizen Science Kit. Each kit will explore a different aspect of the science world and give Girl Scouts a well-rounded, team-building experience.
The STEM Lab is made possible by a grant from The Erie Community Foundation.
“We are thrilled to support the creation of the new STEM lab, which will spark curiosity, innovation, and opportunity for young people across our community. Encouraging girls to explore science, technology, engineering, and math is especially important, and we are proud that this space will serve as an educational resource that inspires learning and discovery for years to come, stated Rachel Cacchione, Director of Community Impact.”
Girl Scouts, families, and community members alike are invited to attend this exciting opening. Our Girl Scout Shop will be open to visitors during the event, and girls who attend will receive an exclusive STEM patch.
