The Girl Scout membership year runs from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2027. Annual membership dues are $65 for girl members and $30 for adult members. Additional local fees and discounts may apply. Financial aid may be available through your local Girl Scout Council. Girl Scout memberships must be renewed annually.

Girl Scouts can apply for special scholarships. Girl Scouts can earn their Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards. Gold Award Girl Scouts have access to job and internship opportunities and can even enlist at a higher pay grade when they join the military.

How much does it cost?
Beginning Membership Year 2026–2027, membership costs:

$65 for girls
$30 for adults

Additional fees may apply for troop dues, uniforms, special travel opportunities, and events. Some Girl Scout councils add an extra fee to annual membership dues to support local programs, volunteer training, and more. However, Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania does not add local council fees to its membership dues.

Did membership fees increase?
Yes. On October 19, 2024, Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) held a National Council Session where delegates from across the country voted on membership dues.

The approved changes are:

For girls: $65, phased in at $45 for Membership Year 2025–2026 and $65 for Membership Year 2026–2027
For adults: $30, effective Membership Year 2025–2026

Where does the membership money go?
The local council does not receive any funds from membership dues—100% of dues go directly to GSUSA (Girl Scouts of the USA) to cover the cost of fundamental services supporting the Girl Scout Movement.

Yes! Financial assistance is available for eligible girls to help cover the cost of:

Girl Scouts offers programs that grow with her from K-12, and adult volunteers like you lead girls as they participate in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.

A Girl Scout membership year starts on October 1 and lasts until September 30 of the following year, but you can join Girl Scouts anytime. Beginning the 2026-2027 membership year, annual national membership dues are $65 for girls and $30 for adults.*

You can join as a volunteer while registering your girl in Girl Scouts.

What is a troop and how do I find one? Can I start my own? toggle arrow

Groups of Girl Scouts, called troops, typically meet weekly or every other week for an hour or two. Guided by adult volunteers, troop members choose the hands-on activities and projects that excite them, try new things, and cheer each other on. Together, they earn badges to reflect their successes and show the world what they’re made of.

You can join a troop already meeting in your area, or start your own.

You can even join without a troop! This type of membership is known as an Individually Registered Girl Scout (Indie Girl Scout). Indie Girl Scouts choose how to participate based on their schedule and interests.

How can troops earn funds for activities and other costs?
Troops can earn funds through:

The Gifts & Goodies Program (selling nuts, candy, and magazines)
The Girl Scout Cookie Program

These programs help reduce or cover costs for Girl Scout activities. Last year, local troops received nearly $2.2 million in proceeds from cookie sales, which helped pay for:

Camp
Travel
Skill-building programs
Community service projects
Memberships
Uniforms

Troops can also organize additional money-earning fundraisers to support their activities.
