Who's ready to feel the heat of the furnace in one of the hottest
introductory experiences offered by our partners at Pittsburgh Glass
Center as local artisans showcase and share their talents during a
Girl Scouts Make-It-Now Event for older Girl Scouts who will make
hand-crafted glass flowers.
Look what's blooming in this
introductory activity. In the Pittsburgh Glass Center Hot Shop,
participants will work with a local artist to transform molten glass
into a unique glass flower. Choose your favorite colors and use
special glass sculpting tools to stretch and sculpt the material.
Participants for this activity must be Juniors and up per PGC
guidelines.
Enjoy an amazing day of glass at one of the
country's premier art glass studios. Work closely with talented local
glass artists to create unique glass artwork in one of the center's
studios and watch exciting, live, narrated glassblowing demonstrations
throughout the day. Pick up a guide and take a self-guided tour of
PGC's new state-of-the art facility to learn more about glassmaking
and studio glass art in Pittsburgh. Participants receive a specially
designed Girl Scout Patch.
Make-It-Now workshops are
Pittsburgh Glass Center's most introductory workshops. They are
designed to be quick experiences to try glassmaking with the
assistance of a local artist. Please note that due to the nature of
hot glass, items made in the hot, flame, and kiln shops cannot be
taken home the day they are created. Items can be picked up 5 days
after the workshop. Shipping can be arranged for an additional
fee.
Want to keep the fun going? PGC will also be
offering a second experience on the same day where participants will
design a fused glass suncatcher. Check out "Suncatcher Saturday
at Pittsburgh Glass Center" on the GSWPA Activities Page for more
information about that event. Participants interested in doing both
sessions must register for "Glassy Girl Scout Flowers" and
"Suncatcher Saturday" in the same transaction to receive the
discount. Make sure to pick different session times for each
activity.
***Adult supervision for the duration of the
event is required. Girls must attend with a parent/guardian or troop
leaders (following ratio). All attending adults must register. This
allows us to confirm ample space and supervision in advance of the
event. No tagalongs permitted.***
