Who's ready to step back in time and learn about Northwestern Pennsylvania's rich history in oil production at one of the nation's first operational oil wells? Join our partners at Drake Well Museum and Park for a special event and learn all about the many aspects of oil and how there is a drop of oil in our lives every day across multiple avenues.

As part of this event, participants will complete the steps for a retired GSUSA Junior Badge - Oil Up - that was available from 2001-2011, earning a Drake Well Museum & Park Patch instead. Participants will also receive a special Discovery Tour Souvenir Bag full of fun and educational materials. Lunches are not provided, so please plan on bringing lunch and enjoying the park.

In 1859, Drake Well struck oil and launched an industry that has forever shaped our modern world. Using orientation films, exhibits, oil field machinery, and historic buildings, Drake Well Museum and Park tells the story of the petroleum industry's birth in Pennsylvania and its growth into the global enterprise it is today.

Girl Scouts will discover where oil comes from, how it is obtained and how it is used. Participants will learn about the importance of oil in Northwestern Pennsylvania's history and its impact on the world, as well as oil's impact on the environment. This event includes a guided tour of the historical Drake Well Museum and Park's 240-acre site and several hands-on activities, such as a simulated Oil Spill Clean Up.

Looking to make a weekend of it? Check out the neighboring Oil Creek State Park for possible camping and additional activities, as well as a train adventure on the Oil Creek & Titusville Railroad.
