Who's ready to step back in time and learn about Northwestern
Pennsylvania's rich history in oil production at one of the nation's
first operational oil wells? Join our partners at Drake Well Museum
and Park during Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend for a special
event and learn all about the many aspects of oil and how there is a
drop of oil in our lives every day across multiple avenues.
Registration also covers the 41st Annual Fall Gas Up, sponsored
by the Pioneer Steam and Gas Engine Society of Northwestern
Pennsylvania, where participants can experience the engines and
equipment that powered Pennsylvania's oil fields.
As part
of this event, participants will complete the steps for a retired
GSUSA Junior Badge - Oil Up - that was available from 2001-2011,
earning a Drake Well Museum & Park Patch instead. Participants
will also receive a special Discovery Tour Souvenir Bag full of fun
and educational materials. Lunches are not provided, so please plan on
bringing lunch and enjoying the park.
Girl Scouts will
discover where oil comes from, how it is obtained and how it is used.
Participants will learn about the importance of oil in Northwestern
Pennsylvania's history and its impact on the world, as well as oil's
impact on the environment. This event includes a guided tour of the
historical Drake Well Museum and Park's 240-acre site and several
hands-on activities, such as a simulated Oil Spill Clean Up.
Looking to make a weekend of it? Check out the neighboring Oil
Creek State Park for possible camping and additional Girl Scouts Love
State Parks Weekend activities, as well as a train adventure on the
Oil Creek & Titusville Railroad.
