(Renfrew, PA) Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania celebrates the 100th anniversary of Camp Redwing, their K-12, 123-acre camp located along the Connoquenessing Creek in Renfrew, Butler County. To celebrate, Girls Scouts Western Pennsylvania will be hosting a Camp Redwing 100th Celebration August 11-13, 2023, filled with camp games, a sing-along, camp stories, a historical tour, vendors, water activities at the splash pad and pool, a catered dinner, and traditional campfire for generations of Camp Redwing campers.
The land where Camp Redwing stands was given to the Girl Scouts by the Babcock family in 1920. Edward Babcock was the mayor of Pittsburgh and his wife, Mary Babcock, was one of the early supporters and first commissioner of the Girl Scout council. When Mary died in 1969, one of the original units named Merry Lodge was renamed Mary Lodge in her honor.
Camp Redwing is currently owned by Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania, headquartered in Pittsburgh. Staff and volunteers work together to bring programming opportunities such as day camp, troop camp, adult training and certifications, and community service projects to girls, adults, and community members in a camp setting. Today, the camp welcomes hundreds of Girl Scouts each year looking for exciting, life-changing summer experiences to develop each camper’s courage, confidence, and character.
Everyone is invited to join generations of campers on Sunday, August 13, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. to explore the camp property, cook and sing around a campfire, and receive a special-edition Camp Redwing 100 patch. You must register online by August 12 to attend.
